We often talk about how important is to implement concrete actions aimed at protecting the environment. The professional cleaning industry wants to contribute trying to minimize the impact of cleaning operations. In fact, sustainable cleaning methods are the latest trends in the global professional floor scrubber market. For years, Comac also has been working in this topic. The recent initiative concerns the Carbon Footprint of the latest generation floor scrubbers: let’s see the importance of measuring it.
Climate change: it is not a prediction!
Before explaining what the Carbon Footprint is and why it is important to measure it, it is worth talking about climate change to understand the magnitude of this problem and therefore why it is important to monitor your carbon emissions.
Climate change is not a prediction. It is happening! The Planet’s temperature increase, ice melt and sea level rise are the three evidences that eradicate any doubt on climate change. It is real, and if we consider how climate has changed over the last 150 years since the industrial era, we can see that humans and the anthropic activities are the cause. The main responsible to blame for climate change is CO2, a gas connected to the massive use of fossil fuels.
What is the Carbon Footprint and why it is important to measure it
The Carbon Footprint of Product (CFP) is a methodology based on the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) with which the emission of GHG (greenhouse gas) is measured throughout the life cycle of a product, or rather “from cradle to grave”. The data resulting from this calculation corresponds to the impact that the product has on climate change.
We are aware that in order to improve it is crucial to understand and above all measure what we are doing. This is why we started quantifying the Carbon Footprint of some of our latest generation scrubbing machines.
The awareness of our responsibility towards climate change led us to embrace the international standard ISO 14067 that defines the requirements for the quantification of the climatic footprint of product. Measuring the Carbon Footprint of the latest generation floor scrubbers allows us to have real and third-party verified data on the climate performances of our scrubbing machines. We can therefore understand which ones are the most critical stages in terms of Greenhouse Gases emissions, also known as GHG, and effectively act to reduce the emissions of gas responsible of climate change.
Antea 50 BT CB: the first Comac’s floor scrubber with the CFI mark
Antea 50 BT CB floor scrubber is the first, among Comac’s products, to be included in the Carbon Footprint Italy program, and for this reason bearing the CFI mark.
Carbon Footprint Italy is the Italian programme operator that manages the communication of the Carbon Footprints implemented by companies engaged in the fight against climate change, and is part of the international network called Carbon Footprint International.
In a market where so many labels and logos are promoted, it is not easy to identify what are the pure “appearance strategies” aimed at greenwashing. Obtaining the registration to the CFI program has allowed us to place the mark directly on our Antea 50 BT CB scrubber drier, in order to provide all the detailed information that guarantee authenticity of the data to increase the communication credibility. In addition, the CFI program is based on the blockchain technology to ensure the uniqueness and the historicity of the data.
Sustainability is a rewarding path
Measuring the impact in terms of CO2 emissions is part of the sustainable rewarding path for those who decide to move in this direction. A company attentive to this data, usually is also inclined towards reducing emissions and saving energy. This implies a technological upgrading process that also brings benefits to the company’s financial report. One example? The reduction of energy consumption also implies a decrease in energy supply costs.
The path towards sustainability is thus transformed from “a problem to be solved” into an innovative solution that benefits everyone, and Comac is proud to enter this virtuous circle.
