If there is a machine that has accompanied much of Comac’s history and has allowed the brand to be known all over the world, it is the C85 industrial floor scubber, and the whole C family. Since the end of the 1980s, till today, the evolution of C85 has gone hand in hand with that of the company and with the innovations in cleaning technologies, becoming an icon in the world of Italian and international cleaning industry. This is why it deserves a space in The Comac Blog where we tell you the history of the C85 industrial floor scrubber and the C family.

The birth of the C range
After years of experience in the field of walk-behind scrubbing machines, Comac perceived the need to also develop a range of ride-on machines. The market was asking for professional scrubbers even for larger spaces, with high productivity and excellent performance. By the end of the eighties, the then “innovative” ride-on scrubber dryers of the C range entered the offer: the C100 first, then C85 and finally C130. The market welcomed them with enthusiasm as they represented Comac’s answer to the cleaning needs of all those large industrial floors.
C thus became one of Comac’s historic ranges also thanks to excellent performance, reliability and robustness that have always distinguished them. In fact, many businesses and cleaning companies are still using the models produced in the early 90s.
1990: the C85 floor scrubber enters the scene
The history of the C85 industrial floor scrubber began in 1990, the year in which Comac officially included it in its range. Like all ride-on models in the C range, the C85 soon became a reference point for the professional cleaning market. This is because it was robust and able to offer excellent scrubbing performance on any type of flooring. The first C85 was also extremely innovative compared to the standards of that time: the moving brush head had two counter-rotating brushes that adapted to the surface and could move to the right to clean edges and dirt deposited up against the wall. While the squeegee was designed to follow the movements of the C85 to ensure perfect drying, even in cornering. C85 was also available in the sweeping version, named C85 BS, and allowed to collect small solid debris that could be present on industrial floors.
Today we take for granted these features on an industrial floor scrubber, but at the time the first C85 was born they were extremely innovative. These are the features that made it famous and that have been Comac’s guidelines in the design of the new C85.
New C85: the comeback of a myth
In 2018, 18 years after its first launch, the C85 returns to the market together with its “big sister” C100. They are the worthy heirs of a beautiful tradition in mechanized cleaning, and crowned Comac’s international success.
The relaunch project had a great goal: the new C85 should have brushed on the concepts that made the old C famous up and revisit them from a modern perspective. An evocative design for the natural evolution of this family of machines. This is why the campaign developed for the launch phase was called “the return of a myth”, the myth of Comac’s best seller, the C85.
New C85: the most innovative technologies for cleaning
The structure of the new C85 is robust and recalls its predecessor, but it has an intelligent soul and is therefore capable of revolutionizing the traditional idea of cleaning. The technologies available are the most innovative in the professional cleaning market and allow you to interact with the floor scrubber to make the most of its functions. Excellent performance and maximum safety as for the historic C85, but now shaped by technology and no longer simply by mechanics.
For the more nostalgic C85 is available in the Essential configuration: a more essential machine that is indispensable for all cleaning operations which are mainly focused on excellent performance. But the real revolution is the Bright configuration of the C85, capable of offering excellent performance combined with the maximum levels of existing technology for scrubbers in this category. Thanks to the touch screen display, C85 is also extremely easy to use. All data collected by the floor scrubber is transformed into useful information to allow maximum control of cleaning operations. From Intelligent Pressure Monitoring which provides a constant and accurate measurement of the pressure on the brushes, to the solution level sensor up to the Constant Solution Flow to ensure correct distribution of the solution on both of the brushes. But not only that, LED headlights, anti-collision sensor and rear view camera are available for even safer use of the C85. Without forgetting the ease of use: in the Bright configuration, after selecting the type of work, you can select the cleaning program (Eco, Standard or Plus) using the touch display.
The technological innovation of the new C85 can also be measured thanks to the perfect implementation of the Comac Fleet Care management system. CFC collects the data sent by the floor scrubber and converts this into information that is used to improve coordination, optimize performance and increase fleet efficiency, while reducing downtime and fleet management costs.
Performing and environmentally friendly
The new C85 is also environmentally friendly. As part of a circular economy logic, C85 has been designed right from the start with its end of life cycle destination in mind, thus focusing on recovery rather than disposal.
Even the technologies with which it is equipped make it environmentally friendly. Cleaning operations performed in ECO Mode allow to reduce the amount of water, detergent and pressure delivered. This reduces the waste of water, detergent and energy but also the noise level of the floor scrubber.
For C85 there is also the NSC – Non Stop Cleaning – version which, thanks to the filtering system installed directly on the machine, allows you to reuse water used for scrubbing floors to be recycled. This system significantly reduces the use of water, thus preserving a precious and unfortunately increasingly scarce resource.
The new C85 is also one of the scrubber dryers for which Comac started measuring the carbon footprint by evaluating its life cycle “from cradle to grave” to achieve the CFP Systematic Approach certificate according to the ISO 14067:2018 standard. In this way, Comac can provide C85 with real and third-party certified data regarding its greenhouse gas emissions to allow the implementation of reduction and compensation activities.
The new C family
Today the C family consists of four models of industrial floor scrubbers: from the more compact C75, to C85 and C100 up to the large C130. A family of machines designed to work in any environment and in any dirty condition such as in production sites, warehouses, shopping centers, supermarkets, logistics centers, airports, railway stations and car parks.
So, now that you know the history of the C85 industrial floor scrubber and the C family, all you have to do is contact us to understand together which is the most suitable for your cleaning needs.
