The sweeper is an essential cleaning tool you should have to get perfectly clean floors. This is because it allows you to mechanize cleaning operations thus making them effective and fast. The sweeper, like all cleaning equipment, may not work properly or not running at all. Often it’s simply a poor (or careless) maintenance. In other cases we face a real issue to be solved.
Essential maintenance after each use
Sweepers are quite simple machines requiring no continuous maintenance. Like all cleaning machines, sweepers also require essential maintenance after each use. So, don’t forget to:
- Empty the waste hopper;
- Clean the filter;
- Have a visual check of the brushes.
Don’t forget to perform daily maintenance on your sweeper. If you have any doubts, refer to the use and maintenance manual to find out which are the correct operations to perform.
Periodic maintenance of the sweeper
We recommend you to carry out periodic maintenance so that you have your sweeper checked by an authorized technician at least once a year, or after 250 hours of work. This will help improve cleaning performance and significantly extend the service life of your sweeper. We also suggest you ask the technician to use only original spare parts to replace consumables of the sweeper. Original spare parts integrate perfectly with your sweeper, meet the highest quality standards and comply with European safety and environmental regulations.
How to avoid issues with your sweeper
Here are some tips to avoid issues with your sweeper. Remember not to work, and therefore collect material, in environments where there are ropes, strings, straps, nylon from packaging of such dimensions as to be able to wrap around the central brush and causing its stop. Moreover, remember to close the suction if you work on wet surfaces so as not to damage the filter.

Most common issues and how to fix them
So, let’s have a look at the 5 most frequently asked questions, and their answers, if your sweeper is not working.
- Why is my sweeper not working and not turning on?
- Why is the run time of my sweeper shorter?
- Why is my sweeper not cleaning properly?
- Why is my sweeper raising dust while working?
- Why is my sweeper making more noise than usual?
Clearly, the answers you will find below are based on our experience as we can’t do a field analysis and “put our hands” on the machine.
Why is my sweeper not working and not turning on?
Let’s start with the most frequently asked question. If your sweeper is not working and not turning on we suggest you to check:
- That the key switch or the main switch is in the “on” position.
- If your sweeper is battery powered:
- Check that the battery connector is connected to the sweeper system. Also verify that the batteries are charged.

- If your sweeper is powered by a motor:
- Check that the starter battery is charged and connected to the machine system. Also check that there is fuel or LPG in the tank according to the type of power supply of your sweeper. We also recommend you to check if the fuel filters are clogged.

Why is the run time of my sweeper shorter than usual?
Sweepers are chosen as they allow you to clean large surfaces in a very short time. So, if the run time of your battery sweeper is very short, we recommend that you understand the most common causes:
- Check the battery charge level.
- Also check that the batteries are proper connected to each other and that the battery connector is connected to the connector of the sweeper’s electrical system.
- Make sure the battery poles and terminals are not oxidized or dirty. If this is the case, contact a technician.
- Check the condition of the batteries. Remember that the older the batteries, the less they hold a charge.
What should I do if my sweeper is not cleaning properly?
If your sweeper does not clean properly or does not clean as well as you would like, we suggest you check:
- The main brush adjustment.
- The wear of the brushes, so that you can change them if necessary. On Comac professional and industrial sweepers we suggest to change the brushes when the bristles are about 10mm high. If you work with brushes that are too worn, the cleaning performance of your sweeper is significantly reduced, and in some cases they can even ruin the floor.
- That the brush type is suitable for the floor and dirt type. In fact, there are special brushes with soft, medium, hard, mixed bristles and with steel wires for the most stubborn dirt. Thicker bristles are stiffer and therefore should be used on surfaces where you have solid and heavy dirt (gravel, cans…). For surfaces with light and dusty dirt we recommend you use softer bristles.

- The side brush or brushes. In fact, if the side brush is worn it will not convey dirt to the main central brush and this may affect the cleaning performance of your sweeper.
- If the filter is clogged so that you can proceed with its cleaning. On the other hand, if your sweeper is equipped with an electric filter shaker, check its correct operation.
- If you are using the flap correctly. Don’t forget to raise it when necessary if you are vacuuming very bulky material such as leaves.
- The debris hopper. In case it is full you should empty it.

Why is my sweeper raising dust while I am working?
If your sweeper raises dust during cleaning operations you should:
- Check the flaps and replace them when damaged. The flaps of the sweeper make the suction effective, so in case they are worn the dust could rise.
- Moreover, check if the front flap is broken. If this is the case, the sweeper throws heavy dirt to the front. So, proceed with its replacement.
- Also in this case, check if the filter is clogged and clean it. If your sweeper is equipped with an electric filter shaker, check its correct operation.
- Verify whether the main brush is properly installed or not.
- Also check the correct positioning of the debris hopper.
- Inspect the suction motor to check whether it is properly working or not. Contact the technical assistance if necessary.

My sweeper makes more noise than usual. Why?
If your sweeper is making mor noise than usual we recommend you to check that there is no material wrapped around the main brush or the side brush.
